Hazaleus Awards
Margaret Bennington Hazaleus, a woman of force, compassion, and wit, became a respected mentor for a large number of women at Colorado State University over several decades. After earning a bachelor's degree in nutrition and a master's degree in sociology from CSU, she served as the assistant dean of the College of Home Economics for a number of years. Margaret was one of the members of the Faculty Women's Caucus ad hoc committee that came together to design a course of study that would become the Women's Interdisciplinary Studies Program. The Women's Studies program now extends course opportunities and certification at the undergraduate and graduate level to students annually. She also helped young women faculty to better understand and work through the challenges they faced early in their careers. Margaret knew sexism and human biases created limitations and she empowered women to succeed, leading to stronger lives for individuals, families, and communities.
