Boyer Lecture

The Annual Harriet Patsy Boyer Scholarship Lecture takes place in November each fall. Scholarship recipients are recognized, and a Women’s Studies Affiliated Faculty provides a lecture on her or his current research at the celebration. Dr. Harriet Patsy Boyer was a professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures from 1967-1997. Dr. Boyer was a noted specialist in Spanish Golden Age Literature and published numerous works. An early proponent of the Women’s Studies at Colorado State University, Dr. Boyer also initiated the Women’s Studies Project on Teaching, Curriculum and Scholarship in 1984 as part of the Gender Integration Project.

The Harriet Patsy Boyer Scholarship is an annual award which aims to increase opportunities for students to expand their understanding of women in culture and society. The Office of Women’s Programs and Studies awards the scholarship to students pursuing certification in the Women’s Interdisciplinary Studies Program.

The 7th Annual Harriet Patsy Boyer Scholarship Lecture will take place this year on November 15th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Lory Student Center University Club and Cherokee Park Room. The keynote address, “Philosophy, Fantasy and Freminist Visions” will be presented by Jane Kneller, Following the keynote we will be recognizing the eight scholarship recipients for this year:

Hazaleus Awards

Margaret Bennington Hazaleus, a woman of force, compassion, and wit, became a respected mentor for a large number of women at Colorado State University over several decades. After earning a bachelor's degree in nutrition and a master's degree in sociology from CSU, she served as the assistant dean of the College of Home Economics for a number of years. Margaret was one of the members of the Faculty Women's Caucus ad hoc committee that came together to design a course of study that would become the Women's Interdisciplinary Studies Program. The Women's Studies program now extends course opportunities and certification at the undergraduate and graduate level to students annually. She also helped young women faculty to better understand and work through the challenges they faced early in their careers. Margaret knew sexism and human biases created limitations and she empowered women to succeed, leading to stronger lives for individuals, families, and communities.

The Office of Women’s Programs and Studies and the Women’s Interdisciplinary Studies Executive Board invite nominations for the 2007 Hazaleus Awards. Please click here (pdf, 790K) for the nomination instructions and form.
