The CSU Men's Project, started in the Fall of 2005, was initiated by Chris Linder, current Director of The Office of Women's Programs and Studies. The Men's Project Coordinator and colleagues work to challenge the climate and culture that allows sexual assault and other gendered violence to thrive. The Men's Project subscribes to a primary prevention philosophy designed to challenge the rape supportive environment that allows gendered violence to continue at alarming rates.
The Men's Project training consists of 10 weeks during the fall semester. The training aims to give people identifying as men a place to explore issues of gender privilege and its intersections with other identities. The Men's Project Coordinator explores with participants the interconnectedness of all oppression, and examines how sexism plays out on campus and in society. The program focuses on empowering individuals to take action and challenge our rape supportive culture. Participants will be engaged in a critical examination of gender socialization occurs throughout the training.
After completing the training, participants may chose to participate in more opportunities offered by the Office of Women's Programs and Studies, including the Student Alliance for Gender Education, Greeks Against Sexual Assault Program (GASA), Victim Assistance Team, or the Women's Interdisciplinary Studies Certificate.
The participants in this cutting-edge and nationally studied program often report their participation as being a highlight in their week. Students enjoy the opportunity to interact with other people who identify as men, and to support, learn, and grow from each other with the aim of holding themselves and their peers accountable for their socialized behaviors.
